The Sneaker Diaries: Colour Crushin’ on Khaki

I think you've all realised by now that my colour palette of choice is always very neutral toned.  I love earthy tones, especially in Winter and of course I'm no stranger to a bit of beige and grey but one colour and it's moody shades have stolen my heart this season and that colour is green.

Khaki, Olive, Army, Forrest.  Whatever the shade I'm loving it!  I'm sure you spotted the Olive green coat from Monday's post, and well I couldn't wait to don some more of my current colour crush so today I'm coordinating my accessories in the shade of Khaki.  I had this Khaki Chloe Faye bag from Farfetch last year and sadly this colour is now impossible to find, my advice is to set up an alert on Vestiaire and keep those eyes peeled.  When shopping in my local shopping centre I walked past Office and spotted these Khaki New Balance trainers and despite not being a frequent 'trainer-wearer' I had to have them because they are the perfect colour match with my Faye.

I wore this outfit last weekend and it was the perfect 'off-duty' casual look for mooching around some markets in London and having a good English pub lunch.  Although I wear heels the majority of the time I think it's always handy to have some chic trainers, and yes trainers can be chic.  My rule of thumb when styling trainers is to add at least 1 piece of tailoring to the mix, whether it be a crisp white shirt, a tailored blazer or coat or a pair of tailored trousers (as seen in this post).  I came from a generation of 'trainer-lovers' and in my school years trainers were of the utmost importance to me, I had to have a new pair every term and they were the core item in ALL my the times have changed.  Anyway my point is that I'm very conscious not to ever replicate the outfits I used to wear from my teenage years.  Now I'm a fully fledged adult I like to style my trainers in an adult way and by adding in some tailoring it's pretty easy to achieve this.

Love these trainers. I’ve been wanting to embrace the athleisure wholeheartedly but as a Mum I’d be worried looking a bit frumpy or getting it wrong. I love the idea of adding the tailoring to glam it up a bit! x

Being a mum is even more the reason why you should definitely give it a try, you’ll look stylish as well as comfortable and although I don’t have any kids yet I know how important that is to mums All I’d day is pick your trainers wisely and always add in that tailored piece and you’ll look far from frumpy x

Thanks Emma! I spend hours a day pushing around my 10 month old (plus taking my 6 year old to and from his school) and I need to be comfy but can’t bear to be scruffy or drab. I’ve never done the school run without make up yet!

whoop! I bet you make all the other mums jealous at the school gates 😉 That’s so refreshing to hear as well because some women say they literally don’t make any effort once they’ve had children and that’s always been the thing that’s scared me about having kids, I still want to be ‘me’. You’re a prime example that it most definitely is do-able xxx

Ahhh been seen the khaki colour crop up in so many places recently! Not surprising that it is the Pantone colour of 2017 then eh?

Absolutely loveee the New Balance trainers, I’m pretty sure the 373 are the style that I use to have for a while in blue!

Another fantastic outfit Emma 🙂 Loving the daily posts too! Props to you

Not surprising at all 😉 They are so comfortable I want them in at least 4 more colours haha. Thanks Heather, as always x

I love these trainers, New Balance are my favourites! Because of my bad feet I have to wear trainers most of the time (with the exception of night outs etc) but for when walking lots I sadly have to put the lovely shoes and boots aside and wear my trainers, as I have to wear insoles. Anyways, I would love if you could do more posts like this as footwear is something I struggle with, making an outfit cool with trainers…I know you touched upon it in the post but just thinking of more ideas, say something along the lines of 5 different outfits styled with one pair of trainers. Your style is impeccable and I think you would have awesome ways to showcase this.

    • 18th January 2017 / 9:05 pm

Hi Jade, I can certainly do that for you. I’ll get brainstorming those outfits tomorrow and I’ll be sure to pop them all in a post for you 🙂 x

This outfit is beaut, think I need to add some khaki to my wardrobe! The green coat from the previous post looks divine on you too! xx

Thanks Alison, I do love that coat 🙂 Deffo add some khaki to your wardrobe, it’s such an easy colour to work with in terms of styling x

Outfit is perfect, Em. I am also struck by the location-the colors in the background really make the outfit pop! Beautiful work!!

Did you upsize in the Trainers? Are they a neater fit?

    • 19th January 2017 / 7:00 am

I just went for my normal size, they do have a little room in them but in winter I wear them with sheepskin insoles so I don’t have to wear normal socks, mmmmm toasty feet 🙂 x

oh Sheepskin insoles – sounds like heaven 🙂
Maybe we should give them a try in our pumps for more comfort haha :-))))

YES I totally agree, khaki rules x
