Spring Uniform

Photography by Simon Creasey

Spring is just around the corner and it's literally all I can think about, can you tell?  I mean it's not like I keep harping on about it or anything.  I'm starting to collect a few new season additions for my Spring wardrobe and I'm finding that denim is taking a back seat. I've been buying chinos, wide leg trousers and linens.  My hems are getting shorter, fabrics lighter and some colour is even sneaking in there.

I remember all to well from my days commuting into Central London to go to my retail job, that Spring mornings are still pretty brisk, even when the sun is shining, and yet when midday rolls around, it's baking hot.  This tricky weather often wreaks havoc with our sartorial choices.  But over the years I've found a pretty good formula for Spring dressing, and whilst in this look it is quite casual, the formula can apply for workwear too...with a few tweaks here and there.

As I mentioned above, my hems are getting shorter, so come Spring time I'm opting for a slightly more cropped trouser than I've been sporting throughout Winter.  These cropped khaki wide leg trousers from House of Fraser are perfect for Spring and they're a slightly lighter option to a pair of jeans.  However to combat the chilly mornings or those not-so-sunny days I still find I'm in need of knitwear.  This navy wool high neck jumper acts as a windbreaker against the chill and means you don't need to leave the house with a hefty Winter coat that will only weigh you down.  Underneath you might have a basic t-shirt or linen shirt so if you're enjoying an alfresco lunch break in the sun then you can leave your jumper in the office or even drape around your shoulders.  Now as my office is in my home and I am the boss I keep my footwear pretty casual, so I've opted for some comfy lace up white trainers but for a work scenario you could swap these for some elegant court shoes or loafers.

Love the outfit ! Kaki looks great on you. BUT linen needs ironing, not as easy as jeans… Sorry for being a pain with this comment, I’m French ahah

But they aren’t made of linen, they are the same fabric as stretch denim haha

Hi Emma–Love the pants and the trainers. House of Fraser? I’m wondering if they ship to the US. Doesn’t say on their site. This is probably a constant question for you, sorry. But hey that’s what you get once you become an international fashion guru 🙂

    • 10th April 2018 / 2:02 pm

Ooooo good question, I’m not sure that they do, it’s a UK based department store so I think they might just do EU shipping I’m afraid. x

Cute! I am sick of always wearing skinny jeans. Would love to try a pant like this.
