Cropped Coat

Photography by Simon Creasey

I want to end the week on a positive message...

I recently had a tattoo on the inside of my arm and it rather simply reads 'Be You', and if you haven't seen this tattoo I'm sorry it's not visible in the imagery of this post, but hey, it's Winter 😉 But the message of this tattoo resinates very deeply with me and it's one which I like to remind you guys of from time to time.  In this world we live in, consumed by social media, I just want to tell you that being yourself is always ok.  I don't mean 'ok' in a 'it'll do' sense of the word, but often we feel under pressure to act a certain way, dress a certain way, have a certain kind of lifestyle but you know what it's all smoke and mirrors.  So just embrace yourself and live YOUR life not the life Instagram dictates you live.

Be you.

Thank you for this ♥️. I’m 36 now and I will say that it has taken me a long time to be me. I was never the girl that liked going out to party, drink and have boyfriends etc; I’d much rather stay home and read a book. I’ve often said in despair that it seems like everybody else seems to understand life and how to live it and I don’t… Which is, as I now know, so untrue . I’m now totally fine with spending my evenings on the couch cuddling with my cats and my husband . My little nieces lovingly call me ‘crazy auntie’ and I take that as such a huge compliment ! Just want to finish this long (sorry!) comment by saying that apart from family and a few friends you are the only person I follow on social media precisely because you (and Simon!) are you and true to yourself, and I’m not sure if I’m explaining myself properly now but you never make me feel pressured or silly for NOT wanting to look a certain way or to buy a certain item (I hope you understand what I’m trying to say). That having said, I have bought almost an entirely new wardrobe over the past six months because I do really like your style . Anyway, sorry for the long comment! Have a nice day and ‘see you’ on Sunday! X

Dorine I’m so on the same page and I’m so happy that you get those positive vibes from both Simon and I. I hate going out too, and I hate drinking and I often get judged as someone that doesn’t have fun, well I don’t deem being pissed as fun and that’s ok. There are some people in this industry that I am aware like to say not so nice things about me, and just because I dress like I do/have a certain style apparently I should act a certain way, speak a certain way, live in a certain area of London and conform to all those stereotypes…..well, no, it’s just not me.

I’m glad you are you!! and I am sorry to hear that some people in your industry are saying or thinking these things – the only reason I can think of is those people being insecure about not being able to be true and authentic…! Honestly I wish you knew how much your blogs and vlogs have lifted my spirits and helped me through challenging times precisely because you are you! Lots of love xxx

Thank you for this post, Emma!
In this world guided by social media and ‚influencern‘ I sometimes need such remainder saying that it‘s okay to be me. 🙂

    Love the outfit (as usual)!!

It’s AWESOME to be you, remember social media is all smoke and mirrors, no one is perfect and no one has a perfect life. Perfection is boring anyway, who’d want that 😉 x

Awesome post and important message… so…. Whilst “being me” at the kitchen table, sipping my morning coffee, I scrolled down, saw those KG boots and just had a little melt down out loud to myself. Those. Are. Fantastic.

Love the outfit always on point as usual Emma. I agree too many women are trying to be something they are not, purely to get likes by putting on a front that they everything is amazing, with the latest clothes, spotless homes, without a hair out of place, however behind the screen its not the case. Social media does put a huge amount of pressure for us women to live up to. We must try and remain true to ourselves xx

      • 6th February 2018 / 2:34 pm

Indeed, no one is perfect, it’s all smoke and mirrors, there is no such thing as a perfect life and we should all embrace what makes us not perfect x

Love the outfit but even more so, the message. You truly inspire others to be themselves! <3

One of the things I love about you (& Simon) you’re genuine… no airs, no graces. To your point, we’re all unique. I love embracing my uniqueness and enjoying others revel in theirs too.

A few years ago I read something that basically said. You are the only person that can be you. If you spend your life trying to be someone else then you have failed. It has changed my life. Now I am genuinely happy for other success and I don’t feel like I am less because they have more.

    • 6th February 2018 / 3:07 pm

I couldn’t agree more Denise. I think it’s completely fair to have ambition to get to where you want to be but to get there by being yourself is the only way x

I just started following you a few weeks ago and I just have to say that seeing your posts always brightens my day! I live in Florida so a lot of what you wear isn’t quite practical for me, but I absolutely love your style and have especially taken to heart your advice about choosing quality items that are staples you can have your years rather than filling your wardrobe with a lot of unnecessary frill.
I don’t tend to follow fashion or beauty bloggers because I find that so much of what they put out seems really fake and forced, but I love how natural and relatable you are. You really make it seem so easy to have a glamorous, classic look that’s still cute and youthful, and I just want to thank you for being such a positive role model!

P.S. Hope you’re having a great vacation! I live about an hour from Disney World and visit all the time, I’m glad y’all seemed to enjoy it so much!
