10-Piece Capsule Wardrobe

I know I don’t normally post on a weekend but I was meant to post this on Thursday so I thought I’d share it with you all today as some weekend outfit inspiration.  In my post ‘The Breton’ from last week I spoke about some of my wardrobe staples and asked if you would like to see a capsule wardrobe post.  You said yes so I’ve been tirelessly working on bringing you this.  I’ve chosen my top 10 pieces which can be worn in so many different ways to create well over 12 different outfits.  Obviously there’s not much colour in here because it very much reflects my style and my taste but you guys can customise this by swapping in your own pieces.  This is simply a capsule wardrobe so I even add in other pieces to amp it up at times but this selection is a great starting point if you’re ever stuck for something to wear.  You can shop my capsule wardrobe above by clicking on the square icons on each piece, or head down to the bottom of the post where I have listed loads of other high street alternatives in the scrolling marquee.

An absolute must for me!  I sometimes have to fight the urge to put on my denim shirt because I’ve worn it 5 days in a row but you can see from my outfits below that they really are so versatile; layer over a basic tee, wear on it’s own or tie it around your waist.

Do I really need to explain?  A well fitting pair of black skinny jeans is essential to any wardrobe!  If you’re slight body conscious then you could change these for a pair of bootcut or even flares (so on trend next season!) but I personally think curvy girls look H.O.T in skinny jeans, just wear them with confidence!  I’m currently loving River Island jeans, they come in different lengths too which is great if like me you have annoyingly long legs or if you’re petite.

Most people opt for a white basic as a staple of their wardrobes but not me, I prefer grey.  I always go for a slouchy v-neck fit and the high street have some great options for slightly oversized fits.

Ok it doesn’t have to be leather, it can be “pleather” but if you hunt in the sales you could get a real leather investment for under £50, just be savvy.  What I love about the leather pencil skirt is that is instantly adds some sex appeal to any outfit, but don’t be fooled with thinking it’s an evening-only piece, oh no, below I’ve styled it with the breton tee, converse and denim shirt tied around the waist..casual but cooooool.

All hail the Breton!!!  It’s french stigma is the selling point that gets me every time.  I’ve added the navy/white combo into the capsule wardrobe just that I’m breaking up a lot the black which I already have in here but there are so many options for the Breton, grey/cream, black/white, red/white.  My advice it to go for the Navy for the ultimate Parisian chic look.

Get your Daz out because rule no.1 is that it must always be crisp white.  Rule no.2 buy it slouchy/oversized.  Rule no.3, don’t think of it as your old school shirt!  It’s a firm favourite of the fash-pack worldwide and rightly so.  It’ll be the most versatile piece you’ll ever own, don’t underestimate the power of the white shirt.

I have a mixture of real leather and “pleather” bikers and I love them all equally.  They look great with denim, in particular a pair of boyfriend jeans, they can be worn casually with Converse or sexed up with those black skinnies and some heels.  Stick to black folks, coloured bikers are cool but they are often very trend orientated and will only last one, maybe two seasons.  Black is timeless.

Now all our high street faves have cottoned on to the coolness of the bf jeans we have a plethora of washes, rips, no-rips, cuffs, twisted seams to choose from.  My current favourites are a little over high street price because they are the Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans but as we all know with Levi’s, they last a lifetime and get better with age.  Having said that River Island have also got some great bf cuts currently in store so definitely check those out!  What I love about a bf jean is that they look equally as cool paired with flats or heels and they can give a real boyish twist to any outfit.

Does anyone else out there live in the blazer-jeans combo?  I know I do, it requires minimum effort but because you’ve added a tailored piece you instantly look like you’ve made an attempt to look good.  I personally prefer a boyfriend fit or at least a longer length blazer rather than something that skims the hips.  Zara and Mango (in the selects above) are my go-to stores for a good fitting, well cut blazer.

Aka shorts.  I’m just being super cool calling them cut-offs 😉  But seriously, you need these in your life!  As you discovered from yesterday outfit post (‘Short Affair’), denim shorts aren’t just a thing of summer days, oh no peeps, whip out those thermal tights and don your shorts in the winter!  But please, no butt cheeks on show, make sure they cover all of your derriere, I’ve been scarred by one too many a 12yr old walking around like they’re freakin’ Rihanna, what would your dad say girls? Really!
